An Overview of the Performance of the EUVE Observatory
Abstract
We review the in-orbit performance of the EUVE scientific instruments. EUVE was launched on June 7, 1992. After spacecraft checkout and an instrument initialization phase, a two week in-orbit calibration phase was carried out, which included observations of a number of different types of EUV sources. These observations have been used to carry out initial calibration of the EUVE instrument sensitivities, imaging point spread functions, spectrometer resolution, and performance characteristics. The instrument calibration has been repeated at a monthly frequency; no evidence for degradation of instrument performance has been found. The EUVE instruments are performing at or above the predicted performance in all areas. Examples of data obtained with the imaging telescopes and spectrometers will be presented. This work has been supported by NASA contracts NAS5-30180 and NAS5-29298.
